Day One: En Route to San Jose
We departed Trinity at 9:30 Saturday morning. We arrived at the Atlanta airport at 1 PM and met up with our very own Atlanta resident/communications expert Lauren. Going through security and baggage check went smoothly and was thankfully ordinary. We boarded and took off with no delays or malfunctions. The flight was smooth with the exception of some slight bumps as we got closer to San Jose. We touched down at about 5 local time. We got through customs and immigration without incident and were greeted by three members of last year's mission team from Greenville that are here to stay and work with us this week.
On the way to the little roadside restaurant that we ate dinner at, we took the opportunity to look out the windows of the bus and admire the lights of the city. We had an excellent traditional dinner that was interrupted only a couple of times by the sound of a falling mango on the tin roof of the restaurant. The boys were intrigued by the roaming chickens in the small dirt yard on the side of the restaurant.
After dinner, we went to the Diocesan House, where we will be staying for the duration of our work week. We met Paul, the Diocese liaison, and got a tour of the house. After a long day of traveling, we were glad to get to bed. Tomorrow promises to be an exciting first full day in the city and we can't wait to explore and learn the culture of Costa Rica.
God Bless,
The Costa Rica Mission Team
